Your first session
Most musical connections are exactly what they appear to be. A few practical habits can make a first jam feel safer and more comfortable.
Take time to check the profile, discuss the music and agree who will attend. You do not need to share your home address, personal email or phone number immediately.
A staffed rehearsal studio, community venue or familiar public place is a better first meeting than a private home or isolated location.
Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you expect to meet and when you plan to return. Arrange a simple check-in.
If the people, place or situation differs from what was agreed—or simply feels wrong—end the meeting. You never owe anybody a rehearsal.
Riff Mates provides blocking and reporting controls for members and messages. If there is an immediate danger or a crime, contact the appropriate emergency service rather than waiting for a site response.
Involve a parent or guardian in any online contact and meeting arrangements. Do not attend a first meeting alone.
